    1. Pedantic says:

Did the translator decide to call the “Forty million year old, Mongolian, prehistoric predator” a “dire wolf” or was that in the manga?

Forty million years ago in Mongolia the only giant wolf-like predator, was a mesonychid named Andrewsarchus. Andrewsarchus matches the illustration better too.
The dire wolf on the other hand, only evolved 1.8 million ago, and went extinct only 10,000 years ago. It was stockier than the gray wolf but not taller, and it lived exclusively in North America.

Nope, that was in the manga. And yes, that confused me as well.

        To clarify a bit more…

What confused me was that the term used in the manga was “恐狼”, literally “fear wolf”, and the closest thing to that is “dire wolf”. But the thing is that generally the Japanese term for dire wolf is “ダイアウルフ”, a transliteration of “dire wolf”, and “恐狼” isn’t used as the name of any species in Japanese. It is, however, used as the species name for dire wolves in Chinese. Meanwhile, nowhere is Andrewsarchus called “恐狼”; it’s called “安氏中獸” in China and “アンドリューサルクス” in Japan. So even though Andrewsarchus may have been a better fit for the illustration and description, the term used seemed to correspond closer with “dire wolf”. I’m pretty sure this was Hoshino’s goof.

So Zealousness. Much Dog. Very Murder. Such Mystery. Wow.

    3. Doomroar says:

He desperately needs to start carrying a camera with him, that was a one hell of a wolf, at least he has the bones to show, but man how come he is not a highly world wide prestigious professor after being involved with titans!?
