    Kinnikuman Episode 01 (Anime)

    LoverOfHokuto(Avatar)

    Here’s Episode 01 of Kinnikuman!
    MKV: Torrent | Megaupload
    AVI: Torrent | Megaupload

    snapshot20090907080151

Here it is! The second new title release since HnG’s recent expansion and this one promises to be a project that will warm the cockles of every classic anime fan’s heart!
I am of course, talking about the one and only, Kinnikuman!
Kinnikuman has been around for 30 years now in Japan and shockingly, has never seen the light of an English dub/sub in all that time. Well, we thought it was about time somebody did something about that….
Under the team name of HnG Muscle Subs, we proudly present the first episode of the original T.V series!
This project wouldn’t even have gotten off the ground if it wasn’t for the immense contribution made by Drax with his Karaoke, Timing, Editing, Encoding, and RAWs!!
Special thanks are also due to: SystematicChaos for providing such a speedy and excellent Translation check, GonbeFAN for doing a great job in Timing this episode, Kawaii Kenni for letting me steal his Song translation, Walker Prescott for selecting a perfect set of fonts and doing an incredible typesetting job, DaikenOh for the avi encode, and finally a big thanks to Devil Buffalo for stepping up and painstakingly checking everything along the way!!

Kinnikuman will be released in 2 formats. .avi (Divx) and .mkv (x264).
Torrents are also on the way so please bear with us a little longer for those!

Oof! 1 down, 136 to go!!

EDIT: Torrents are up, so please seed guys!

    1. A big congratulations guys! I’m looking forward to checking this out later on tonight ;)

    2. Molanphy says:

Congratulations and thank you for the 1º episode of Kinnikuman…It’s perfect ^^

    3. Raoh76 says:

SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!! Thanks all, seriously THANKS!!!!

    4. Mick Hamblen says:

Wow Terry Funk (Terryman) in ep 2. job well done on the episode

    5. stepmine says:

      Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    6. Walker P. says:

Haha, @Mick: Maybe we should’ve included that as a note.

Great job everyone– I look forward to working with you on later episodes.

    7. Chued says:

Thank you so much guys. Great work

    8. zamunda says:

Ow this was an entertaining episode! Really appreciated, thanks to the whole team. Great job. Question – is this the best quality, isn’t there a remastered version of Kinnikuman? Does this anime contain filler episodes? Thanks again.

    9. SilentSurvivor says:

OH GOD, PLEASE, PLEASE CONTINUE THIS, IT’S SO DAMN AWESOME, I CAME D:

    10. TUIII says:

Yay, I was waiting for this anime!
      Thanks.

    11. SHINOBI-03 says:

      YES!! Finaly!! Kinnikuman fansubs!!

I’ve been a fan of the manga for a long time and I wanted to watch the anime and the movies.

I hope you hurry with the torrents, because it’s easier to dowonload than MU or any direct download way.

    12. Wimmo says:

      @Mick
Terry Funk sounds terrible! Was that his dub name or something?

      @Zamunda
Sadly, what you see is what you get I’m afraid. Toei being the perennial tightwads that they are felt that a simple transfer of the old film cells direct to DVD would be what everybody wanted to see. There is no remastered edition of Kinnikuman despite what people say or what you may read. Our RAWS come from the recently released Box set and yes, the scratches, stains, and frame slips are all in there!

      @Everybody else
Thanks for your kind words of support. HnG has never dropped a project halfway through and we don’t get intend to start now. You will get the whole series done through us no matter how long that may take!!

    13. SHINOBI-03 says:

      @Wimmo
Terry Funk is the real-life Pro-Wrestler who Udetamago based Terryman from.

      Just google it.

    14. Wimmo says:

      @shinobi
Wow! never knew that! Thanks for letting me know!

    15. Mick Hamblen says:

Terry and Dory Funk Jr. with their father Dory Sr were were quite the thing in Texas and Florida wrestling in the 70s,

    16. zamunda says:

Thanks for clearig that up. Well i guess that the animation gets better though. So no spoilers in this anime? For some reason i think i saw a better looking animation on youtube, some guy was uploading the whole series on youtube in HQ (for some reason i can’t find them now), but i guess it’s the same DVD quality like in your release. Thanks again.

    17. zamunda says:

I forgot to say that the megaupload speed (at least for me) is very fast. 300-400 k, so i don’t know why this guy is complaining.

    18. Walker Prescott says:

Also @Zamunda, “Does this anime have filler?” All I can say is pfffft. This anime’s filler has filler, and even the big story arcs have filler in them, in the guise of fart jokes and visual puns. But it’s entertaining nonetheless. And also, I think I downloaded a WMV torrent of Kinnikuman at one point that had, like, super-brilliant quality… maybe we should take a look at those. I mean, ours are fine, but it’s always worth looking to see if you can do better, right?

To everyone else, episode 2’s script is on its way to completion, so I would guess within a week or two it should be fully encoded and stuff.

    19. Wimmo says:

      @Walker
Ahh yes, those wmv files… It’s a 60gb torrent right?
I downloaded all 60gb of that torrent and yes the picture quality was very good (I think they must have used A LOT of filters when encoding it…) but unfortunately each episode had differing sound quality and totally random frame per second speeds which would give us the headache of having to retime the karaoke almost every episode!
Also, WMV is incompatible with the fansub software we use.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re fantastic raws but they’re just not ideal for fansubbing use…

    20. GuyaneseG says:

      thank you so much!

    21. Necromancer says:

Thanks alot for the release, been wanting to see what Kinnikuman is all about for awhile!

    22. Korokun says:

      Well…

I’m glad for one thing even though I didn’t get to fully help Drax, I’m glad he made use of my translated OP/ED of Kinnikuman. Stop on by #m.3.3.w and holla at me bro!

    23. Korokun says:

…though I’m not going to lie it prob did need a touch up.

    24. wimmo says:

      @Korokun
      Your translation of the OP/ED…?

    25. Korokun says:

Yes long before it was ripped, I just saw it now, and thought eh, Drax came to me personally or was vice versa. Anyway I have them, although yes they do need an edit since I’ve saw the release of both op/ed.

Come to me directly via mIRC to chat.

    26. wimmo says:

I see… Well the translation I used was mine and Kawaii Kenni’s so…

    27. Hey, what about me? I like went on holiday, and then ate some cookies, and then went fly fishing with J.R. Hartley. Surely that must count for something? Anyone…anyone?

    28. Korokun says:

Well don’t know what to say really, but hope for the best. Winmo however me and you do need to talk about that op/ed. There’s a few you got, I missed, and a few I just want to question.

    29. getter says:

Yet another series I’m glad to see a fresh start on. I see nothing but great accoomplishments in the HnG future at this rate. Thanks so much for all the continuing hard work everybody puts in.

    30. Fukurou says:

      Wooooooo
Thanks a lot guys. Wasn’t even expecting that.
Hope you’ll make it till the end.

    31. Drax says:

Korokun, it was not your translation. I only used, modified and fixed the karaoke effects I made for our cancelled project.

    32. yeah says:

ty ty for picking this up

    33. GAH! says:

      Need moar souten no ken!!!

    34. @GAH!:
Don’t worry, don’t worry my good man. SnK, and more Hokuto goodies, are coming in a couple of days ;)

    35. oatmeal says:

Consider my cockles warmed. I watched the 4kids dub of Kinnikuman Nisei as a youngster and always wanted to see a subbed version of either that or the original Kinnikuman. MANY THANKS and please keep with this.

    36. Renato says:

Amazing! Thank you for the hard work!! I’ll be looking forward for more episodes! Really thanks!

    37. smashfanDS says:

Thanks guys!!! Love this show, thanks for bringing it to us :D

    38. animemiz says:

OMG This is such a blast from the past!!! THANKS!!!!!!!

    39. Buffaloman says:

wow AWESOME, thanks for subbing this!

    40. Apeguts says:

Please tell me this is real and you’re not yanking my chain. I am at a loss for words in happiness. I love the manga and I always wanted to see arcs like the Chojin Olympics and the Seven Devils. I hope you’ll see this through till the end.

    41. Bloodsack says:

Hokuto no Gun spreading the love to all old skool anime fans.

      Good job guys:)

    42. Thank you!!!! The first episode was hilarious!!!!

    43. zamunda says:

Rewatching the episode again…The character Great Tatsumi from Garouden seems to be based on Antonio Inoki.

    44. zamunda says:

Wow in the same scene when they argue over Inoki or Baba, on the Baba corner you can see Tiger Mask :D and Hulk Hogan :D. On the Antonio corner you can see some Green Monster and some guy with a mask (looks like the Red Skull), so are these two famous wrestlers at all?

    45. Mega-Japan says:

I love this group, I seriously do. Seems so reliable for some reason, not to mention very friendly (most groups these days are filled with a bunch of asshats).

So really, you have my sincere thanks for all Hokuto, Souten, Kinnikuman and even Bobobo, I’m grabbing it all from you guys. Mainly because I love Weekly Shonen Jump, and all shows you’ve subbed so far are based on it. Thanks again!

    46. @Mega-Japan:
      Glad you like our stuff!
We do this for people like you, so we’re happy you (and all the rest of you) are enjoying our stuff ;)

    47. zamunda says:

Question – i remember seeing the ending of some anime on youtube, and the ending showed the desturction of Earth or something, some typhoons rising, something like that. And i think it turned out that the ending wasn’t full. It may be one of the Mazinger or similar animes.

    48. sal says:

i can’t believe how cool this is. Thank You for releasing a rare gem.

    49. YOU ARE GODS!!! ive been waiting for this forever!! please sub it all and take your time!! im happy knowning someone is doing this !!

    52. Xx KeNoH xX says:

I just watched the first episode. It was awesome! This was my first time watching this anime even though im generally into classic older animes. It was funny and entertaining. Thanks a lot! (Btw can’t wait for u guys to do sakigake otokojuku if you guys do it!)

    53. Kabuto says:

thanks for subbing this, never thought old Kinnikuman anime that be good and hilarious ^_^

    54. KANG says:

This was the first manga I ever got back in like 1993 when I first started getting into anime. Of course it was all in Japanese and I didn’t understand a word, but the art was awesome and I loved the fights.

You guys own so much for translating this old-ass snime most people still con’t care about at companies, I can’t wait to watch this because the “next generation” kinniku anime just didn’t wow me.

    55. Orgg says:

I’ve watched this twelve times this week.

      Thank ya’ll so much!

    56. huuuuurreyy!!!

      thanks a lot!

    57. denshousha says:

      Hey guys, great job!!!
The only omission I noticed was you didn’t put in the part where Detective Gobugari (called Akaiwa in the manga) gave his name.
There is a Kinnikuman wiki up @ http://kinnikuman.wikia.com if anyone out there wants more info on the series.

    58. Wimmo says:

      Aww shit.. You noticed that?
Actually I too spotted the error about 2 days after we released it but by then it was too late to fix!
The reason I made that error was because, I actually had never watched the anime until now (maybe a few episodes max) and I was only familiar with the manga.
In that scene, the audio was said so quickly that I could hardly make out what was being said. I heard ‘Gobugari’ but thought ‘that can’t be what he’s saying because gobugari is the name of a haircut (a very short one too which the police detective doesn’t have!) so I figured he was saying Gokogari which is like hunting down invaders. Also it’s West SumidaGAWA station he’s saying (instead of hearing ‘-gawa sho’ I heard ‘ansho’ which means peace preservation hence the mistake) so that entire line is incorrect! I wasn’t gonna say anything until somebody pointed it out, which you now have. I only realized his name was Gobugari when I spotted it in the voice actor credits several days after release!
      hmm…maybe we should re-release this as a v2 release…

    59. denshousha says:

Akaiwa is a parody of Kuroiwa from Daitokai III
      (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSv1L-uTtuE)
and I guess they had to change the name so they wouldn’t get sued. :(

There are so many late-70’s/’80s Japanese pop-culture references in this show; it must be hell translating it. This site has helped me a lot at figuring out the references:
      http://www23.atwiki.jp/checkmate/pages/1.html
Unfortunately it only deals with the manga version and not the anime, but it’s still a great resource.

    60. Wimmo says:

You’re right about all the references! It is a tough show to translate as I really hate using translation notes and always try to keep them to a bare minimum but sometimes they are unavoidable. I should probably do some translation liner notes to go with each episode but I don’t really have the time!

    61. Keke says:

      WHOA

    62. kikka says:
