Hokuto no Gun to Collaborate with Saizen

You read that right: Hokuto no Gun is doing its first joint project! We’re teaming up with the guys over at Saizen Fansubs to help out with their project “Ashita no Joe“, a classic old boxing anime known as the Rocky of anime! Saizen has already released eighteen episodes of this show, and we’re just helping them speed things up a bit, since our timer and QC SpiritofHokuto20xx and our typesetter GonbeFAN want to see this done.

That said, we could use a little more help to push this project onward. We need:
A Japanese to English translator! We’re still looking for fresh talent as I’m running out of juice. I’ll be filling in until I can find a replacement, but I would rather find someone soon.
A proofreader: This isn’t for Joe, this is for our manga projects. We need someone who really knows their English and is very thorough in their correcting! English majors preferred!

And don’t forget to head on over to Saizen’s page to download the first 18 episodes!

And in case you missed it, DD episode 4 is below!

Awesome! I just watched the movie the other day. Looking forward to it.

    2. RAOH76 says:

That’s so weird! I was searching yesterday for episodes past 18, I thought the Saizen guys had given up and I was going to settle for the [ClubberW] 1-33 wmv format batch (no one was really seeding though) so this is GREAT news!!!

Do you think (Saizen) might be inclined to release the avi versions of 1 – 18? (I know the details of said collaboration are probably still up in the air) MKV is just so dang restricting…

This little gem (okay not really little) definately fits in with the quality and classic-ness of HnG projects, really, really looking forward to this as it unfolds (Just when you thought Hokuto no Gun couldn’t get any cooler!) Love the momentum guys!

    3. RAOH76 says:

Hokuto no Gun – your home for animes so good, they have to have mock funerals for the antagonists (oh , yeah- spoiler alert)

    4. SSR says:

Awesome, awesome, and awesome. Between you guys and the kind people doing the manga releases, Tomorrow’s Joe finally gets the translations it so desperately needs.

    5. Dopefiend says:

About the proofreading, so you’re looking for someone to read the English translations and make sure everything sounds correct and that there are no spelling or grammar errors? If so I could easily do that. English was always one of the easiest subjects for me in school.

    6. SystematicChaos says:

Dopefiend: I’m glad you’re willing to help out. It’s a little more than just that, as there’s also the element of making suggestions to make things sound better, even if they’re correct. I’ll let LoverofHokuto know you’re interested, and he could give you a bit of a run-down on what he’s looking for.

    7. Dopefiend says:

I fully understand what you mean, I assumed coming up with better phrasing would be a part of it. That sounds pretty simple really so yeah I could easily do that. Just send me an email whenever you guys want me to put in work.

    8. BerserkerMecha says:

      Nostalgia rush!!

      Thanx you guys !

    9. Sacrificial Rite says:

      It ain’t even April yet!

    10. sangofe says:

Have you guys had any luck with the recruiting yet?

    11. SystematicChaos says:

Unfortunately, not yet. It’s really hard to find translators, but we’re getting the word out there.

    12. Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin says:

These are great news. I hope you’ll find a good and willing translator soon.

Also, does this mean that we’ll see a rerelease of the first 18 episodes in avi format?

    13. sangofe says:

I highly doubt that re-encodes will be done, akaky. The project has had 3 different, or maybe even 4, up until this point, plus avi releases are pointless.

    14. SystematicChaos says:

@sangofe: How about I take care of AVI releases? We tend to do them because they’re more versatile; many people want to put these in DVD players or PS3s, and MKVs aren’t compatible with them.

I can see if I can get a hold of the RAWs from another group translating it into French.

    15. Cyrion says:

      Hello guys,
I was searching for a very long time ago for kinnikuman episodes because i was nostalgic and also beacause a big part of it where banned very fast in my country.
For that reason I would like to participate in your project in translating all the episodes.
My japanese is not perfect, but i think i can help with the major part, providing someone verify my translations afterwards. I propose to write all on a word format with the unsure words in red.
I hope my english is ok for you, I can also help with french, because… je suis français bien sûr.

Please contact me by e-mail if you want me to make a try.
