    Temporary Drought Period at HnG!

    April 21st, 2010

Yes guys, you heard me correctly.

We are indeed suffering a drought period due that darn Icelandic volcanic ash that is causing so much chaos and disruption. Ok ok, truth is, we’re in a drought period because I’ve been insanely busy at work, some of the staff have got exams, but more importantly, because both of our manga editors are out of commission due to severe computer problems. That said, we do have some chapters ready for editing, but we’re just going have to be patient and wait for our editors to get their computers problems sorted out.

Now, don’t get too gloomy because there is some light at the end of this drought tunnel.

    1. We should hopefully get a final encode of Toki Den relatively soon.
    2. I’m going to send the Yuria Den script to SC for a final check in a couple of days.

    Happy April Fool’s!

    April 1st, 2010

Okay, so it’s midnight my time and thus the joke’s officially over.

This was all an April Fool’s joke, and it wasn’t a very good one. It was one I just thought up in the spur of the moment with full realization that it was very highly unlikely and not at all trustworthy. And yet a number of you fell for it. I guess this shows we have a bunch of gullible fans!

To set the record straight, there will NOT be Akashachi Gaiden, Juuza Gaiden is NOT cancelled, Araki Hirohiko is NOT drawing anything HnK-related (though that would be awesome), we are NOT picking up this project, Wimmo is NOT returning, and we are NOT dropping anything.

Also, I hate to be a fanboy, but to those of you in the comments: Shachi was the Hokuto Ryuken guy. Akashachi was the pirate. Make sure you get those straight.

For those of you that missed the joke, here’s the original post:

We at Hokuto no Gun have just learned from a very reliable source that due to lame artwork, Juuza Gaiden will be prematurely cancelled, and Comic Bunch will replace it with a much more awesome Akashachi Gaiden. Most of the details about this new project are top-secret, including its release date, so not even we know much about it, but according to the most recent rumors, this Gaiden will be drawn by none other than Araki Hirohiko.

The HnG Staff are very excited about this new release and will begin translating it as soon as it comes out. We will be dropping all of our other projects just so we can focus on this piece of pirate awesomeness. Rumors have it that even Wimmo will return just so he can translate this manga. We are excited to bring you this incredible Gaiden to you, and we hope you will enjoy it!

    Recruitment Update

    December 3rd, 2009

So, with the end of the semester drawing closer, I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and though I still have a couple papers that need to be done, I’d like to start planning ahead for a productive Christmas break. The karaoke for Otokojuku is nearly done, just a few touch-ups in terms of font choice are needed. However, both of the projects that I am currently managing have one major problem: typesetters. The current typesetter for Bo-bobo is slow as hell (hence the slow releases), and the only person to volunteer for typesetting Bo-bobo was someone who has no experience with typesetting and only volunteered because no one else was stepping up. I haven’t heard from either of them in about a month. I’ve given the Bo-bobo typesetter a warning that if he doesn’t pick up the pace, I will have to replace him. So in case he doesn’t respond, I will need another typesetter for both of these projects (Chued, if you still want to do Otokojuku, you’d better let me know ASAP). Otokojuku shouldn’t be too typesetting-intensive, so no experience will be necessary. However, Bo-bobo is very heavy on signs and text, so I will only accept someone who has had typesetting experience.

Furthermore, the departure of Wimmo has left a gaping hole in all of our projects. So if you are fluent in both English and Japanese, do us a favor and sign up for either:

    1. Translator for the HnK Gaidens

    2. Translator for Kinnikuman (which we will consider resuming if someone signs up)

    3. Translation Checker for Bo-bobo or Otokojuku

    4. DVD Raw Provider for Bo-bobo or Otokojuku

LoH, please let me know if I’ve missed anything.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to bringing you the great stuff you’ve been waiting for. Viva HnG!

EDIT: I just heard from the Bo-bobo typesetter, and he’s saying that he’s currently swamped with real life issues, so it may be best to find someone else.

    Kinnikuman Cancellation!

    November 26th, 2009

    LoverOfHokuto(Avatar)Hi guys,

It is with great sadness that I announce to you today the cancellation of Kinnikuman. Unfortunately, the translator that was helping out had to retire permanently due to some very serious real life issues that have arisen, so it’s curtains I’m afraid. I’m sure a lot of you will be heartbroken by the news, but I ask you to refrain from asking me what happened because this is a personal matter I cannot disclose. I’m more than willing to give Kinnikuman another go if there’s any other translators out there who’d like to volunteer, but as of now, consider this canceled.

I’d also like to state that the Hokuto Gaiden manga projects (not the SnK manga) are also going to suffer a rather significant slow down too, because we’ve only got 1 translator left. Again, if there’s any translator out there who wants to help us out, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line at my email.

Sorry guys, I know a lot of you will be gutted by the news, but there’s really nothing else I can do now. If it’s any consolation, I do have Episode 5, so I’ll release that sometime next week.

No Youtube if you want more Kinnikuman & Request for Bobobo and Otokojuku Staff!

    October 31st, 2009

    LoverOfHokuto(Avatar)Hey everyone,
It has come to our attention that a certain Youtube user known as KinnikumanLegacy has been posting our Kinnikuman releases without our permission at Youtube. Now, normally we wouldn’t mind, but since this is a Toei product (and they tend to be a pain about these things), we really don’t want to attract unwarranted attention to ourselves or this site. Therefore, we will not release episode 4, or any other episodes for that matter, unless these videos are removed from Youtube. I suggest all the Youtube account holders who want to see more Kinnikuman from us message this guy and tell him that he is to blame for the hold up. Lastly, if we see any of our videos posted on Youtube again, we will simply refrain from releasing the next episode until the said videos are taken down.

Now in more pressing news, we urgently need staff for SystematicChaos’ new projects! Please come and help us if you want speeder Bobobo and Otokojuku releases. SC specifically needs:
    1) Someone to re-time the Bobobo script. In other words, timing has to be checked at the beginning, after the opening, after the commercial break(s), and after the ending. Also, from episode 4 on, the timer will need to time the captions with timing delays.
    2) A karaoke creator for the Otokojuku anime.

Feel free to drop SystematicChaos a line at systematic.chaos.713@gmail.com if you want to join.

UPDATE: KinnikumanLegacy took the videos down, so it looks like you’ll be getting episode 4 soon! As for the Bobobo or Otokojuku fans; don’t expect those anytime soon because we still haven’t got any volunteers.

    An Impostor in our midsts?

    October 9th, 2009

LoverOfHokuto(Avatar)It has come to my attention that a certain person who goes by the name of yangwanghokuto has been shooting off his big mouth in various forums (See Ritual Scan Forge) claiming to be part of the HnG staff after being chastised for doing the dirty work of a Baki scanlation paysite known as WFP. Whoever this guy is, he is not acting on my authority, so I really don’t appreciate him giving out my email, telling people we need help for Rei Gaiden when we don’t, and above all, affiliating us with a paysite when our services are and always will be free. We don’t own this anime/manga, so we’re certainly not going to try and profit from something we do out of love for the series. Now, if this guy really is staff (which I highly doubt), I would expect him to speak to me directly as I do not wish my name or HnG to be affiliated with people who do the dirty work for sites that want money for other people’s work.

    Another Project, Now Recruiting

    August 30th, 2009

So, with the SnK anime fully translated and Bo-bobo translated up to episode 50, I figured that I’d have enough time to head another project, but I don’t want to put extra work on the rest of Hokuto no Gun, or the HnG-Hajike guys, so I’ll be putting together another team to sub another anime. Anyone interested, please comment here.

The anime I am planning on subbing is Sakigake!! Otokojuku. I’m pretty sure most of you have heard of it. I was mostly disappointed that there were only 6 subbed episodes on the net, and I figured I may as well change that.

Anyway, I will need a timer, a TL checker (will ask Wimmo if no one is available), a typesetter, and an encoder.

Please note that this will not slow down any of our other projects.

    New Project Recruitment

    July 14th, 2009

Hey all. SystematicChaos here. I’m the translator for the SnK anime and translation checker for the SnK manga.

We at Hokuto no Gun have been recently talking about expanding our borders beyond Hokuto-related material through various side projects. Don’t worry, our Hokuto projects will remain a priority, and these won’t slow down our regular releases. We just have some untranslated anime that we feel needs to be fansubbed. Expect stuff like Kinnikuman. We’re all very excited to get started.

However, as you can tell by the slow releases HnG is currently putting out, we are very busy people and we can’t manage all these projects by ourselves. Therefore, we are creating new teams under our supervision to work on these projects. We would appreciate any help we can get so that LoverofHokuto doesn’t have to bite off more than he can chew.

Therefore, I’d like to announce my first side project, as well as offer recruitment positions for the project. The anime I will be subbing is Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo, which I feel deserves a good sub seeing how the dub screwed it over. I have translated almost half of the episodes, but I can’t cover everything if I want a quality product. Therefore, I would like to recruit for the following positions:

    Timer

Translation Checker: Must be fluent in both English and Japanese. This is not an anime where you can guess things by context! Must have a sufficient grasp of English grammar.

Typesetter: Must also be able to do karaoke.

    I will personally translate.

Those interested, please email me at systematic.chaos.713@gmail.com or send me a PM at our forum. Thank you for your support, and I look forward to subbing the biggest mindf*** in anime history.

In other news, you can look forward to faster releases of the SnK manga than LoH predicted.

EDIT: Please welcome our new timer and encoder for this side project, Super_Sonic, and our typesetter Walker Prescott! Still looking for translation checkers, and more typesetters would be preferred!

    HnG Forum Officially Open!

    May 8th, 2009

    LoverOfHokuto(Avatar)

I declare the forum officially open!
    *LoH smashes champagne bottle*

You can register at the following address: http://hokutonogun.invisionzone.com

I’ve wanted HnG to have its own forum for some time now, but I never made it a priority because HoM was doing such a great job keeping the Hokuto community together. However, once HoM went down, that sense of security was lost and everything changed. Things became more urgent and I began to ask the community to help contribute so the team could do bigger and greater things. Now, thanks to the generous donations of dxInt, Mr. Gerbik (AKA CJ), SpiritofHokuto20XX, vlado, and a very good friend of mine, we got the money together to buy a forum. But the story doesn’t just end there. The star of the show is once again our good friend dxInt. Not only did he give a sizable donation, but he also volunteered to create and moderate the forum in his spare time! He really came through on his promise, so I dedicate this forum to him for his tireless service to the community. Thanks for everything dxInt, I’m in your debt!!

That being said, we still need to maintain this forum, so I hope you guys will help us reach a minimum $10 a month maintenance fee. We’d also like to buy our own domain name, but that can come later. Now enjoy the forum guys, and keep the English speaking Hokuto community strong!
